Prescriptions and our Dispensary

We have a fully stocked dispensary area at each practice, meaning in most cases your pet can take their medication with them straight after a consultation. Alternatively the vet can provide you with a written prescription the same day at a cost of £15.44 for the first medication and £7.44 for each additional medication on the same prescription . We would advise that if a medication needs to be started straight away you take into account how long it will take to order and arrive from an online pharmacy.

Prices of medications are available on request, just ask us at reception or over the phone.

Repeat Prescriptions

If your pet requires a prescription for an ongoing medication this can be ordered online here or you can pop in or call us to request a prescription.

Please order repeat prescriptions 48 hours before you need to collect them. This allows the vet time to dispense the medication and if we do not have sufficient stock we can order the item in for you. (please note this includes our working days only, so longer periods may apply over weekends/bank holidays)

Pets do need to be seen at intervals for mediation check ups, if you submit a request and your pet is due for a check up we will contact you to let you know. The general cost for a medication check up is £25 (this does not include treatment and any ongoing monitoring tests advised).

Written Prescriptions

A written prescription can be requested for your pets medication. The costs are as follows:

Written Prescription for one medication: £18.00

Any additional medications added to the same prescription: £8.00 per medication

Written Prescription for a controlled drug: £20.00

Any additional controlled drugs added to the same prescription: £10.00 per medication

Written prescriptions should be requested with the expectation that they will be sent to your pharmacy of choice within 48 hours (please note this includes our working days only, so longer periods may apply over weekends/bank holidays)

We send this prescription to your chosen pharmacy so you can order directly through them. Generally prescriptions are sent via email, if the prescription is for a controlled drug it has to be sent via post so will take longer to arrive at your pharmacy. We no longer give prescriptions directly to clients due to prescription fraud.

Pets do need to be seen at intervals for mediation check ups, if you submit a request and your pet is due for a check up we will contact you to let you know. The general cost for a medication check up is £34.50 (this does not include treatment and any ongoing monitoring tests advised).

The amount of medication available on the written prescription is dependent on when the patient is next due for a medication check up. If the prescription is for a controlled drug there are strict rules for prescribing these, and prescriptions will usually only be for one month of medication.

Help! I’ve run out of my pet’s medication!

If you have run out of medication or will not have enough left for your pet until their repeat prescription is ready please call us. By speaking directly to a staff member we can look into this for you the same day. Please do not submit a request online to avoid a delay in getting your pet the treatment they need.

Requests for flea and worm medication

Due to updated dispensing regulations we have changed how we dispense prescription (POM-V) flea and worm medications for your pet.

Vets now have to physically examine a patient on the same day that one of these medications is prescribed.

for parasite treatments the vet can write a one year prescription for the treatment of choice on your pet’s notes when they have their annual check up. This means that we can then dispense the parasite treatment chosen for the following 12 months without your pet needing to be seen every time.

You can submit a request for this medication online like any other repeat medication here

If you are unsure whether your pet has an up to date prescription on their notes give us a call so we can advise you further
